In October, I walked a mountain trail on my own, ankle-deep in colour.
The bright ache of autumn is a reminder:
surrender to the great shudder of transience;
lean into the horizontal exchange of elements.
Autumn is a reminder to invert our thinking, and consider whether
decay can signal...a beginning.
Why is it so hard,
we ask,
to look change in the eye?
As the year turns towards its darkest point here in rainy England,
we might begin to take comfort in the idea of death as a start of new cycles.
Decomposition is nature greeting,
interweaving with
and then digesting itself into new forms.
We are always somewhere on the wheel of metabolism.
Inspired by research into mycoremediation, green burials and shrouds made of mycelia, Hannah and I dove into the world of Mulch Me.
As we worked on this track, we became fervent converts to the idea of being mulched.
When our time on this spinning orb is over
(and we'll take all the time that we're given, please and thank you)
let us dissolve, consensually, into the ground -
toxins catalysed by our fungal friends.

lyrics
"The fibres of the suit are woven with a strain of spores hand-picked for their voracious appetite for human flesh"
(Charlie Hintz, Cult of the Weird)
Last will and testament
I wish to be wrapped in the universal veil
Curtain of filament
Shroud of remediation
I have left town
And joined the decompicult
Mulch me
Mulch me
Mulch me
Until I disperse
Formaldehyde
BPA
Mercury
Oil spill
The painkillers I took to make my life liveable
Mulch them
And go on without me
(And go on without me)
And go on without me
Mulch me
Mulch me
Trap the heavy metals in the net of myco-flesh
The dyes from all the death shrouds of those who've gone before me
Mop them up
Space colonies
Cryptocurrency
Slavery
Mulch them
(And go on without me)
And go on without me
NFTS
Binaries
Monarchy
Property
Border checks
The painkillers I took to make my life liveable
Mulch them
And go on without me
And go on without me
(And go on without me)
And go on without me
Mulch me
Mulch me
(And go on without me)
Mulch them
Mulch me
Mulch me
Mulch me
Mulch me
(Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on)
